The collaboration between Anhui Jianghuai Automobile (JAC) and South Korea’s Hyundai Motor in the commercial vehicle sector has entered a new and exciting phase. At the Beijing International Auto Show, JAC and Hyundai jointly showcased their latest innovations, including classic passenger cars and heavy trucks that reflect their deepening partnership. This marked the first time the two companies appeared together at an international auto show, highlighting their growing synergy and shared vision.
The cooperation between JAC and Hyundai began in 1998 with the development of modern passenger cars, and by 2002, they had expanded into heavy truck projects. In just four years, the two companies completed three major cooperative projects, showcasing a level of success and trust rarely seen in the industry. Their partnership has been described as "fish and water," emphasizing how well they complement each other.
On June 15, 2004, JAC and Hyundai held a joint press conference at the Great Wall Hotel, reaffirming their commitment to mutual growth. The partnership is not only strategic but also deeply rooted in sincerity and shared goals. JAC has become one of Hyundai’s most trusted partners in China, playing a key role in the company’s global expansion strategy.
JAC’s rapid development and successful collaboration with Hyundai have led to impressive results. By 2004, JAC’s bus production capacity reached over 8,000 units annually, while its heavy truck project launched in 2003 made a strong impact in the domestic market. The Jianghuai Ruifeng MPV series dominated the Chinese MPV market, achieving top sales in the first quarter of 2004.
Hyundai has placed great confidence in JAC, believing that combining their best products will lead to remarkable outcomes. The success of JAC’s commercial vehicles, especially in the MPV and heavy truck segments, has driven Hyundai to deepen its cooperation with the company.
At the Beijing Auto Show, JAC and Hyundai introduced the “Coastline†series, including the A/T A90 9m and A/S 11.5m buses, as well as the high-end HK6112A passenger car. These models represent the latest in eco-friendly technology, meeting Euro III emission standards, with low fuel consumption, quiet operation, and superior comfort. The HK6112A model, priced significantly lower than similar luxury models in China, has been praised for its value and performance.
JAC’s “Coastline†buses are now available in major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, where they have received positive feedback from users. This indicates that JAC is evolving into a modern, competitive player in the commercial vehicle market.
In the heavy truck segment, the JAC-Gehlfa series has gained momentum quickly. Developed using European technology and tailored for the Chinese market, these trucks combine European durability with Eastern comfort. The newly launched electronically controlled 440 model meets Euro III standards, offering high power, low fuel use, and advanced technology.
This partnership between JAC and Hyundai is not just about product development—it’s shaping the future of the commercial vehicle industry in China. Their collaboration is driving innovation, improving brand image, and influencing market dynamics. As both companies continue to expand their efforts, their joint ventures are set to play a significant role in the global automotive landscape.
