On February 16, the inauguration ceremony of the Zhejiang Provincial Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association took place at the Huanglong Hotel in Hangzhou. This marked a significant milestone for the industry, as it aimed to strengthen communication between enterprises, government agencies, and various sectors within the petroleum and chemical industry.
The idea for establishing a provincial-level association was first proposed in early 2005 during a meeting of leaders from Zhejiang's key petrochemical companies and professional associations. At that time, representatives from various enterprises expressed concerns about the weakening role of government management in the sector. They pointed out that the lack of effective communication channels between businesses and the government had led to disorganized industry management. On one hand, companies were unable to quickly respond to government policies, while on the other hand, critical issues arising during development were not promptly reported or addressed by relevant authorities.
This situation highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive trade association that could serve as a bridge between enterprises, the government, and different industry segments. The initiative resonated with officials from the Zhejiang Provincial Economic and Trade Commission, who took notice of the companies' demands. In February 2005, a preparatory group was formed by the commission’s relevant departments to lay the groundwork for the association. After more than a year of careful planning and coordination, the association was officially established.
To date, the association has welcomed approximately 170 member units, covering a wide range of enterprises across the petroleum and chemical industry. Ye Zhixiang, chairman of Juhua Group, was elected as the first president of the association, signaling a new era of collaboration and development for the sector in Zhejiang.
