At the McHenry Township Fire District Station 5’s grand opening, I had the privilege of being there as a guest. The station is now fully equipped with an engine, an ambulance, a brush truck, and two trailers. The engine happens to be a 2009 Pierce model. This station operates with five firefighters/paramedics on duty simultaneously. During my visit, I got to see the flag-raising ceremony and witnessed the engine being driven into its designated quarters. One of the most interesting features about this station is that when they get an emergency call, the ceilings light up with red LED strips for 90 seconds.
While I was there, Engine 42 was also present. I managed to stop by Station 1 and even snapped a picture of the brand-new Ambulance 51.
During my time at the open house, I learned that Engine 42 had to respond to an EMS call. I was informed that they typically handle around 5,000 calls annually, with 80% of them being related to medical services. It was fascinating to see how prepared and efficient the team was in handling such situations.

The grand opening was a great opportunity to see firsthand the dedication and hard work that goes into ensuring our community's safety. It was inspiring to witness the commitment of the firefighters and paramedics who are always ready to serve.
