McHenry Township Fire District news

I recently had the chance to attend the grand opening of the McHenry Township Fire District’s Station 5. It was an impressive event that marked the official launch of their new facility, which is equipped with state-of-the-art vehicles and equipment. During my visit, I got to see a 2009 Pierce fire engine, an ambulance, a brush truck, and even two trailers. The station operates with five firefighters/paramedics on duty at any given time. One of the unique features of this station is its innovative lighting system. Whenever there's an emergency call, red LED light strips installed in the ceiling illuminate for 90 seconds, providing a clear signal to everyone inside. I was fortunate enough to experience the flag-raising ceremony and witness the moment when the fire engine was carefully backed into its designated quarters. What struck me most about this opening was the sense of community spirit and dedication among the firefighters. It was inspiring to see how well-prepared they were for their crucial role in ensuring public safety. In addition to visiting Station 5, I stopped by Station 1 and managed to snap a picture of the brand-new Ambulance 51. While I was there, I also learned that Engine 42 was on-site for the open house. Interestingly, during my visit, Engine 42 received an emergency call. I later found out that the district typically handles around 5,000 calls annually, with 80% of them being medical-related emergencies. The photos I took really capture the excitement and significance of the day. From the flag-raising ceremony to the arrival of the fire engines, every moment felt monumental. The pictures include scenes of Engine 42 responding to an EMS call, the new ambulance, and various other firefighting vehicles. Each image tells a story of preparation, teamwork, and readiness. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience to witness such a vital part of our community come to life. The firefighters’ commitment to serving others truly shone through, and I’m grateful to have been a part of this memorable event. Thank you to everyone who made it happen! Sincerely, Mike Maida
