House fire in Orland Park, 8-7-24

Excerpts from patch.com:

The Orland Fire Protection District responded to multiple calls about a garage fire in the 8900 block of Oakdale Court on Wednesday just before 5 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered intense flames coming from the garage of a single-family home, with the fire already spreading into a second-floor bedroom and the attic.

Firefighters launched a rapid attack to contain the blaze, successfully extinguishing a fence that had caught fire between the garage and a neighboring house. The residents managed to escape through a rear door without serious injuries.

A full alarm was activated to bring in additional personnel and equipment, and nearby stations were alerted for backup. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital due to heat exhaustion but was later released after treatment.

The home is now considered uninhabitable, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Orland Fire District's Origin and Cause Team. Several neighboring fire departments provided support, including Palos, Tinley Park, Palos Heights, Lemont, North Palos, Homer, and Mokena.
