Autodesk Impact Report: A Message from our CEO

A version of this letter appeared in Autodesk's FY22 Impact Report. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/485157f5baf003c3a29018e50d8a5322.png) Autodesk's journey began 40 years ago when a group of young technologists set out to democratize access to CAD TOOLS. They believed that making design technology widely available would benefit not just industries but society as a whole. The company has come a long way since then, yet it still holds onto the same core values. When used thoughtfully, technology can help tackle some of the world’s toughest challenges, from measuring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions to improving global health and providing career opportunities for those looking to advance. This mission feels more urgent than ever. Looking ahead, we face daunting issues like climate change and labor market inequalities that require bold action. In the short term, global conflicts, inflation, supply CHAIN disruptions, and remote work trends are having immediate impacts on economies and societies worldwide. It's clear that now is the time to refocus on foundational principles—strengthening our communities, fostering resilience, and striving for positive societal change. Last year, we shared our impact strategy. While significant strides have been made, there’s still much left to accomplish. Our approach involves addressing key environmental, social, and governance issues through three main avenues: managing our internal operations responsibly, offering sustainable solutions to clients, and collaborating with partners to drive industry-wide transformations. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/2f6031354583e8138023e74fbb5a04a2.png) This report details our progress across these interconnected areas. Improving our own practices enhances our ability to assist others in doing the same. Providing outcome-driven solutions to clients supports broader shifts toward a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future—a goal we share globally. ### Enhancing Our Operations We understand the critical role our operational improvements play in demonstrating our dedication to sustainability. Our Carbon Fund remains central to achieving our net-zero and renewable energy targets, and recently, we increased our internal carbon pricing to match current market rates. Additionally, we're continuing to advance our three-year diversity and inclusion objectives. To support these efforts, we've strengthened oversight and accountability across all environmental, social, and governance concerns. ### Collaborating With Clients Deepening partnerships with clients allows us to empower them in creating impactful solutions, connecting their data streams, and accelerating meaningful outcomes. For instance, many organizations are facing unprecedented demands for net-zero buildings, resilient infrastructure, and waste reduction strategies. Last year, we enhanced our platform functionalities to help clients amplify their positive influence. We launched microclimate analysis tools, digital twin solutions, and features to boost efficiency in building design and construction. New factory optimization tools were also introduced for manufacturers. Furthermore, we’ve broadened our suite of water management offerings. These advancements enable clients to manage risks better and meet growing needs for eco-friendly solutions. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/f85a9f733de90dd946b3ca0bb1ddf4c3.jpeg) Take Bristol Water, for example. Since 1846, they’ve ensured clean drinking water reaches their customers. Engineers at Bristol Water utilized Innovyze—an Autodesk subsidiary—to determine how much freshwater could flow through their network. This initiative contributed significantly to restoring water quality in Bristol, England. ### Driving Industry Transformation By developing technologies that profoundly alter customer workflows, we contribute to transforming entire sectors. Combining design and production capabilities, integrating related industry segments, and expanding our network of partners and developers allow us to generate insights empowering customers to cut down on carbon footprints, water usage, and waste. Through certification programs and advocacy initiatives, we aim to promote inclusivity within the industries we serve. Engaging with global institutions amplifies our reach and influence. I want to express my gratitude to our clients, staff, and stakeholders who support this endeavor. Together, by adhering to our principles, engaging deeply with our communities, and concentrating intently on desired results, I am confident we can realize our vision of a world designed and built for everyone.
