Alley garage fire in Chicago, 12/29/16

A 20x20 frame alley garage fire occurred on the 5800 block of S New England Avenue on December 29th. The 16th Battalion responded with two engine companies and performed extensive overhaul work at the scene. Engine 32 was assigned to New England Avenue, while Engine 127 took the alley and exited through the gangway to a hydrant on Newcastle Avenue. The units involved were Engine 32, Engine 127, Tower 60, Truck 54, and Battalion 16.

This incident highlights the quick response and coordination between multiple fire units. Engine 32 and Engine 127 worked together to control the fire and prevent it from spreading. The use of a hydrant on Newcastle Avenue helped maintain water pressure during the operation. Firefighters also conducted thorough overhaul to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and no hidden embers remained. It’s always impressive to see how well these teams work together under pressure.
