3D ROBOTICS & Autodesk FORGE New Frontier

In the rapidly evolving world of technology, leading drone manufacturer 3D Robotics has partnered with Autodesk to introduce a groundbreaking UAV-to-cloud solution tailored for enterprise professionals in sectors like construction, telecommunications, surveying, mapping, energy, and infrastructure. This collaboration leverages Autodesk's Forge Platform, a comprehensive suite of cloud services, APIs, and Software Development Kits (SDKs), empowering developers to craft innovative solutions that shape the future of manufacturing. Chris Anderson, CEO of 3D Robotics, highlighted the inefficiencies in traditional site data collection methods, which are both expensive and hazardous. He emphasized that drones can access challenging locations safely, making it easier to gather precise data for improved management. "With Autodesk's Forge platform, we're excited to offer a comprehensive solution that not only saves businesses time and resources but also ensures the safety of field personnel," he stated. 3D Robotics, an early adopter of the Forge platform, is utilizing Autodesk’s ReCap Photo Web API to develop a reality capture system. This system enables field experts to conduct inspections, surveys, and scans efficiently via unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). For instance, in telecom tower inspections, where climbing poses significant risks, 3DR's SOLO drone collects data and processes it in the cloud using Autodesk ReCap, thus eliminating the need for risky manual tasks. The processed data, including 3D point clouds, 2D orthographic views, and 3D meshes, becomes accessible through A360, where it can be integrated into Autodesk software. These tools support a range of applications such as site monitoring, stockpile measurement, and detailed surveying and mapping. George Hatch, a Senior Technical Specialist at Autodesk, explained the seamless integration between 3D Robotics' Site Scan app and Autodesk's workflows, simplifying data transfer and analysis. Amar Hanspal, Senior Vice President of Products at Autodesk, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, stating, "Together with 3D Robotics, we're empowering field professionals to gather valuable insights across multiple industries."
