Fugu County in Shaanxi Province has taken swift action to implement a phased shutdown of the decommissioned Lancang Enterprise, which previously had an annual production capacity of nearly 10 million tons. Last year alone, the county successfully dismantled and shut down 126 small-scale charcoal kilns. In addition, the local government has set ambitious plans to develop a blue carbon industry cluster, with the construction of 17 new production lines capable of processing over 600,000 tons of blue carbon annually. These efforts have led to significant achievements in energy conservation and emissions reduction.
The county has identified 234 Taiwanese-style charcoal kilns across 119 related companies and has decided to close them in stages. As part of this initiative, the first batch of 126 kilns was fully shut down last year. This year, the county aims to complete the closure of all remaining blue carbon enterprises, further reinforcing its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. These measures not only align with national green policies but also reflect the growing awareness of ecological responsibility among local industries. The transition from traditional charcoal production to more eco-friendly alternatives marks a key step forward in the county's long-term environmental strategy.
