The York Center Fire Protection District, part of MABAS Division 12, serves an area of 5 square miles that includes unincorporated sections of Villa Park, Lombard, and Oak Brook, along with the community of York Center and portions of Oak Brook Terrace. The department operates from a single station, staffed by 2 full-time and 68 part-time firefighters, making it a small but dedicated fire protection agency.
Their fleet consists of a variety of emergency vehicles, including an E-ONE Hush pumper featuring a rear-mounted engine, a Pierce pumper, a Pierce heavy rescue unit, two Medtec ambulances, and a US Tanker built on a Freightliner M2112 chassis. These vehicles are essential in responding to fires, medical emergencies, and other incidents across their jurisdiction.
One notable piece of equipment is the E-ONE Hush pumper, a 1993 model that was originally painted in white and lime green. This rear-engine pumper has an enclosed operator's console protected by an extended vista cab, a 1,500-GPM pump, and a 750-gallon water tank. Although the original green color has been replaced with red, the unit remains in service with the department. This vehicle is part of the Larry Shapiro collection and represents a piece of local fire history.
Another important asset is the US Tanker, which plays a key role in water supply operations. It is built on a sturdy Freightliner M2112 chassis and is designed for long-distance water transport. The tanker is often used in conjunction with other units during large-scale incidents or when additional water capacity is needed.
