This year at the FDIC Exhibits, four area units were on display. New engines for Carol Stream, Fermilab, and Northlake were showcased in separate booths, while the MABAS 10 MVU was also featured in the exhibit hall. These displays provided a great opportunity for attendees to see the latest advancements in fire apparatus technology.
In the Alexis booth, a new engine for Carol Stream was on display. The engine, Engine 29, looked strikingly similar to a CFD unit and was built on a Spartan chassis. Another photo showed the front of the same engine, highlighting its modern design and features.
Fermilab’s Engine 702 was on display in the UST Fire Apparatus booth, formerly known as US Tank. The engine was shown from multiple angles, including the rear chevron and the officer’s side with painted roll-up doors. This unit was clearly designed with both functionality and aesthetics in mind.
Northlake’s new engine, Engine 806, was displayed in the Marion booth. It was built on a Spartan Metro Star chassis with Evolution Series trim, making it a standout piece in the exhibit. The driver’s side of the unit was also captured in a photo, showcasing its clean and professional look.
The MABAS Division 10 MVU Mobile Ventilation Unit, housed in Lyons, was another highlight of the show. It was on display in the convention center, offering a glimpse into the future of emergency response equipment.
The FDIC exhibits were spread across two buildings: the convention center and the sports arena. While most manufacturers had moved to the convention center, some units still remained in the arena. Photos from previous years, such as 2011 and 2010, showed how the layout and number of units had changed over time.
In the Pierce booth, there was a nostalgic touch. The newly unveiled Dash CF cab and chassis, which features a grille matching the Velocity, Impel, and Arrow XT models, was on display. However, this year, Pierce showcased a 105' rear-mount PUC quint on the Dash CF chassis without the grille. The design resembled early models like the Pierce Arrow or Javelin, giving it a retro feel while maintaining modern functionality.
