Land Rover Range Rover family or expansion

Comprehensive foreign reports, Jaguar Land Rover recently submitted a number of trademark registration applications, including Jaguar's I-Pace and I-TYPE, and Land Rover's Velar. Jaguar's two new trademarks or for its first electric vehicle products.

The British Autocar and Automobilemag and other media disclosed that Jaguar Land Rover recently applied for registration of trademarks such as I-Pace, I-TYPE and Velar. According to Jaguar Land Rover’s R&D direction and naming rules, foreign media speculated that I-Pace is an electric SUV, I-TYPE is an electric sports car or an electric car, and Velar is related to Range Rover.

Jaguar Land Rover is currently working on the development of pure electric vehicles, and I-Pace and I-TYPE are expected to become the first mass-produced electric vehicles. Since Jaguar F-Pace is the brand's first cross-border SUV and later launched E-Pace, it is basically possible to confirm that the I-Pace submitted in December 2015 is a new SUV. With Jaguar Land Rover's dynamics, foreign media believes the car is an electric SUV. It is expected to compete with the Tesla Model X, the Audi Q6 e-tron and the Volvo XC90 electric version (available in 2019).

The I-TYPE submitted in January 2016 is more difficult to infer because it may be the electric version of the Jaguar F-TYPE sports car or the electric version of the Jaguar XE or even the XJ sedan.

Velar, who submitted the application in February, was clearly associated with the Land Rover brand. Land Rover used the name of the Land Rover Range Rover prototype in 1969. So this means that Velar could be the new model for Land Rover Range Rover's future.
