A Philippine warship fired a Taiwanese fishing boat and killed one person on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Cai Riyao, deputy director of the Fisheries Department of Taiwan’s “Council of Agriculture”, confirmed yesterday that at around 10am the same day, the Taiwanese fishing boat “Broad Xing 28” was shot by a Philippine warship about 180 nautical miles southeast of Eluanbi, Pingtung County. Comprehensive Taiwan media reported that after the Filipino warships shot and killed the Hong Kong crew members, they continued to catch up and fired at Taiwan fishing boats. The ship escaped life after more than one hour of escape, but the equipment on board was severely damaged.

Cai Riyao said that after the damaged fishing boats called for help through the radio, they had already had friends to help. They are expected to return to Taiwan today. In addition, Taiwan’s “Air Patrol Administration” will also send ships to help handle related issues.

He said that he has been informed by the relevant Taiwan authorities about the situation with the Philippine side and that the reasons for the firing of the Philippine warships are still unknown.

The Chinese side demands that the Philippine investigation be conducted immediately and make an explanation as soon as possible. We express our deep condolences to the Taiwan compatriots who were killed and express our condolences to the families.
