Russia will develop a new generation of icebreakers

Russia intends to build a new generation of icebreakers that can break through 2.85 meters of ice to replace the aging nuclear power icebreaker fleet. With the increased demand for natural resource development and commercial route development in the Arctic waters, the Russian Ministry of Transport launched the new project. The test for the construction of the new ship was carried out in Finland and the test conditions were challenging. 80 ice model tests have been carried out. At the same time, driven by the doubling of freight traffic in the Russian icebreaker, some companies have begun to build icebreakers or icebreakers without additional assistance.
